I’ve always been a big fan of Oscar Wilde’s plays, but going back and reading some of his other works has been fascinating. His short stories aren’t wildly acclaimed but I would say rival that of the Brother’s Grimm. His commentary on socialism has merit albeit in my opinion a bit naïve and strictly from an artist’s prospective rather than a economic or political standpoint. In his efforts to bolster the argument for socialism he actually makes a pretty good argument against socialism and a very strong argument against authoritarian government in general including those based on a capitalism platform. I would argue that his real argument is for a type of harmonious social anarchism.
